I recently staged this home in Sierra Madre, a 2000 square foot ranch style house with some traditional architectural features. The home was updated and enhanced for a clean and modern look.
The warm grays that are used throughout the house are soothing. A bleached oak wood floor gives the space an up to date twist. The open kitchen, with white cabinets, glass tile back splash, and an island, is spacious, clean, and crisp with views to the outside.
I like mixing traditional and contemporary design elements. In this home, we chose to do a white wash finish on an existing traditional brick fireplace and hearth which compliments the contemporary spaces of the home. The two high back traditional style leather chairs are sleek, and the accessories are playful.
As an interior designer, staging a home not only helps to sell a property, but is a way to express design ideas for any home. Adding accessories gives the space interest, especially when they are items that you have collected over the years and love. A few pointers, when grouping items together, display the items in odd numbers and use different heights. Don’t over accessorize! Also know that “less is more”. If you have a lot of collectables and can’t decide which ones to display, rotate the items seasonally for a fresh look while displaying your most treasured items.
